A Little Bible Bath

Lately, life has been proving that nature is not enough. I have finished up my school year of substitute teaching, had a birthday, and have focused (maybe too much) on being active. My average amount of steps this past month is about 24,000 steps/day. Being outside and moving is helpful for my mental health, but it definitely does not sustain me. Every year my birthday causes me some grief. Nothing major, just the usual “what am I doing with my life??” and “how did I end up here??” type of thoughts.

To help counter these thoughts, I have been focusing on my relationship with God. Now, don’t get me wrong, I always try to focus on my relationship with God, but I did kinda fall off my devotional track in March/early April. So in honor of turning 28, I decided to do a consistent 28 days of journaling, prayer, and time with God. Each day I would take some time to read, ponder, and pray. I can’t say I had any breakthroughs, but I was constantly reminded of God’s love for me and the whole world. It’s truly amazing how God works everything together for good.

Below, I compiled some verses, devotional quotes, and thoughts that have helped me find some peace during these crazy times. I hope they find you when you need them!

Gaining Perspective

Psalm 119:18 // “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law”

Psalm 34:18 // “The Lord is there to rescue all who are discouraged and have given up hope”

Matthew 5:3 // “God blesses those people who depend only on him. They belong to the kingdom of heaven!”

Romans 8:28 // “We know that God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves him. They are the ones God has chosen for his purpose”

James 3:17-18 // “But the wisdom that comes from above leads us to be pure, friendly, gentle, sensible, kind, helpful, genuine, and sincere”

Isaiah 55:9 // “The Lord says, ‘my thoughts and ways are not like yours. Just as the heavens are higher than the Earth, my thoughts and ways are higher than yours”

Colossians 4:2 // “Never give up praying,. And when you pray, keep alert and be thankful”

Identity in Christ

Ephesians 4:23-24 // “Let the Spirit change your way of thinking and make you into a new person. You were created to be like God, and so you must please him and be truly holy”

Philippians 1:6 // “He will carry on His work in you to completion”

2 Corinthians 5:17 // “Now, if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has become an entirely new person. All that is related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new!”

2 Timothy 2:24 // “A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people”

Devotion Quotes

“The springs of love are in God, not in us” – Oswald Chambers

“Patience is not indifference, patience conveys the idea of an immensely strong rock withholding all onslaughts…The vision of God is the source of patience” – Oswald Chambers

“God can do nothing for me until I get to the limit of possible” -Oswald Chambers

“Jesus has prayed nothing less for us than absolute oneness with himself as He was one with the father” -Oswald Chambers

“Am I allowing my natural life to be slowly transfigured by the indwelling life of the Son of God? God’s ultimate purpose is that His Son might be manifested in my moral flesh” – Oswald Chambers

Final Thoughts

I know times have been hard. I know you may still be waiting for your life to come together (I know I am), but God has a plan. God created you in His image, whether or not you believe in Him. God is good. God is not the church. God is not the Christians who have wronged you, forgotten you, told you you weren’t good enough, or who have not loved well. God is God, and God is good. He is far beyond what any human mind can comprehend. Take courage in knowing that He is for you! Yes, you!

I pray that a verse strengthened you or gave you hope if you read through this. Thanks, friends!
